South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) provides
financial assistance to those in need through various
social grants. Applications can be submitted in
two ways:
In-Person at a
SASSA office
Online via the
SASSA services website

Applying for a SASSA Grant In-Person
Who Can Apply?

You must visit a
SASSA office near you.

If you are
unable to visit due to
illness, age, or disability, a
trusted family member or friend (Procurator) can apply on your behalf.

The
Procurator must bring a signed letter from you authorizing them to apply.
Application Process:
Collect the Application Form – Available at
any SASSA office.
Complete the Form with a SASSA Officer – A SASSA official will assist if needed.
Receive a Receipt – After submitting, you will receive a
stamped receipt with the officer’s name.
Keep this as proof of application.
Important:
Applications are FREE – No payment is required.

You will be
notified of your application outcome
via SMS or letter.
Applying for a SASSA Grant Online
You can apply online for the following grants:
Care Dependency Grant
Child Support Grant
Foster Child Grant
Disability Grant
Older Persons Grant
Grant-In-Aid

SRD Grant, visit the
SRD Grant application page on the SASSA website.
What You Need Before Applying Online:

A
working cellphone number (for verification).

A
valid email address (to receive notifications).

If someone is applying on your behalf (
Procurator), they will
need only one SASSA account to manage multiple applications.
Step-by-Step Guide to Applying Online:
Step 1: Visit the SASSA Website

Open any
device with internet access (phone, tablet, or computer).

Go to
SASSA Services Website.
Step 2: Register as a New User
Click the
"Register" button and enter:
Your citizenship status (South African Citizen/Permanent Resident/Refugee)
Your South African ID number
Your full name & surname
Your email address
A secure password (at least 8 characters, with letters, numbers, and symbols)
Your cellphone number
Step 3: Verify Your Account

Click to receive a
One-Time Pin (OTP) via SMS.

Enter the
OTP on the website to confirm your registration.
Step 4: Log In to Your SASSA Account

Use your
username and password to log in.
Step 5: Select the Grant Type

Click
“Apply for a Grant” and choose the
type of grant you wish to apply for.
Step 6: Complete the Application Form

Enter all
required personal and financial details.
Step 7: Submit Required Documents

Download and
print the SASSA-generated affidavit.

Get it
certified by a Commissioner of Oaths.

Upload a
Bank Payment Form along with the affidavit.

Child Support Grant Applicants:

Child Support Grant, plus:
Foster care order (from a court)
Older Persons Grant Applicants:
